Saturday Cafe Ride

Saturday - Each week throughout the year (although it can get chilly in the winter).
Departs Sutherland Postoffice at 6.30am.
Enter the RNP at Audley, the Artillery, (up Waterfall for the early mark) or continue on to Bald Hill Lookout. Return through the park and up Waterfall to get back to Sutherland @ 9am for coffee.
Distance: 70km
Difficulty: Medium to High (depending on what you want to do).
Steady training ride with stops for punctures or mechanicals. Occasionally, a small group can leave 5/10 mins early to get up Artillery Hill and is then caught by the main bunch along the route - if interested in this early start, please register your interest on the SSCC facebook page.

Club Ride – Sublime Sunday

Sunday – Each week throughout the year
Departs SSCC Club House at 07:00. Head South on Princess Highway, then switch onto Old Princess Highway after Waterfall and continue through Helensberg as far as Sublime Point Lookout. Return via the same route for coffee in Sutherland. Return to Sutherland for around 9:45-10:00.
Distance: 72km
Difficulty: Low to Medium
This is aimed at being a social ride, suitable for all abilities and not a full on training ride, although racing up the hills (as long as you regroup at the top) is acceptable. The bunch will normally stop for punctures or mechanical problems. Some turn back at Helensberg and return to Sutho.

Sunday Park & City Ride

Sunday - Each Week throughout the year
Departs at 06:30 Sutherland Postoffice, Heathcote, Waterfall, Royal National Park back to Service Station at Sutherland. Depart 08:10 for Mascot loop via Boulevard, Paraweena, Grand Parade, General Holmes, Gardeners Rd (arrive 09:00 depart 09:30) return as above.
Distance 90km
Difficulty: High - A grade pace.
The Hills through the RNP early on the ride plus the chaingang into the city make this a formidable ride. The bunch does not normally stop towards the end of ride.

TriClub

Tuesday and Thursday - Each week of the year - Departs Caringbah Shops 05:00 sharp, Sydney Airport, Botany, Grand Parade return to Caringbah around 06:20.
Distance: 43km
Difficulty: Hard - >32 km/h average.

Note: This is not a sanctioned SSCC training ride and should only be considered by experienced riders.

Beaches Ride

Tuesday and Thursday – Each week of the Year – Depart from the Shell Service Station (Cnr Paraweena Rd) at Taren Point about 5.05am either just in front or with the tri bunch but unless they are cooking, we’re off. Same as Tri Ride (See above) to Botany then Wentworth Ave, Mascot across Maroubra Rd. to Arden St. through Coogee, Clovelly, Bronte, Tamarama, Bondi beach. From here, up Curlewis St. Bondi, to Birriga Rd Climbing through Bellvue Hill and back down onto New South Hd. Rd. and back into the cross via the old route just in time to do a turn at the front of the Calutzi bunch departing the cross at 6.20. Returns to Caringbah at 7.15.
This is a high quality ride (fast and hilly) and is not suitable if you are just starting out! Tuesday is a hard pace with Thurs. backed off a notch.

Note, this is not a SSCC sanctioned training ride.

Waratah Park

The track at Waratah Park is exclusively reserved for SSCC use between 5.30-7.30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and is ideal safe ‘off’ road training on the floodlit # 2 circuit. At other times it is used by Southern Cross, Cronulla Tri and Engadine Tri clubs and the general public so please take care when using the track, as all manner of people use it and may not be as proficient in their bike handling.

Social/Recovery ride options:

If you’re new to road riding, or feel the above rides might be too fast, don’t worry, here are some options for you:

– Sutherland member Gaye Lynn does a ‘recovery ride’ out to Kurnell and back most Mondays and Fridays. If you’re interested in joining her, you can contact Gaye on her mobile – 0409 524 802

– Sutherland member Rodger Tranter regularly rides with the TT Tours group. This ride departs Cronulla Golf Club on Eloura Rd at 6am sharp. They head out to Kurnell, along the waterfront to Cape Solander, return to Greenhills for a loop then along Wanda Beach and south for a quick loop of South Cronulla before heading back to North Cronulla Surf Club for a coffee. 40km route and Rodger says he’s home by 7:20am. – Billies Bushies Ride
Lots of Sutherland riders also ride with the Bushies (who are predominantly a running group)
Departing Sutherland pool at 07:00 each Saturday and Sunday. Routes are varied from Darkes Forest to Helensburgh to Stanwell Tops. All levels of riders catered for. There is no website or Facebook group for this ride.

Thursday 7.30pm – 100 lap training ride

Dunc Gray Velodrome

Mondays 6pm - 7:15pm Junior Riders with coaching from the Bankstown CC
7:15pm - 9:00pm Senior Rides with coaching and running from Kevin Young

Important notes

You must be a member of Cycling Australia or MTBA for insurance coverage when joining a SSCC training ride.

Wearing headphones /earpieces whilst bunch training is not permitted.

Carry at least one spare tube and a pump and enough money to get home by Taxi if necessary.

Obey Road Rules at all Times (especially at Traffic Lights) or Bush Rules if on the MTB.

If your training aims are different to those of the bunch, please find a different bunch!
